Response to Homicide In Glover Park

I am deeply saddened by the tragic shooting last night inside an apartment on the 2500 block of 41st Street NW in Glover Park, where a man lost his life. My heart goes out to his loved ones and all the neighbors processing this painful loss.

I have been in close contact with leadership at the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Second District (2D) since last night. I want to thank the officers and detectives for their quick, coordinated work to make an arrest, recover the weapon, and close the case. MPD reports that this incident was domestic-related.

Public safety has been one of my highest priorities throughout my time on the Council. Delivering a safer city requires a balanced, comprehensive approach that pairs strong law enforcement response with proactive, neighborhood-level prevention. Ward 3 has experienced seven homicides this year, nearly all of them domestic-related. This is unacceptable and requires urgent attention. As chair of the Committee on Human Services, I have consistently fought for targeted investments to interrupt violence before it starts. In the recent budget, I helped fully fund MPD, fully restore funding for domestic violence crisis intervention, preserve civil legal advocacy for survivors, and expand 24/7 behavioral health crisis teams.

To build on these efforts, I am taking immediate action:

• Agency Briefings: I am meeting with MPD 2nd District leadership and partner agencies to examine trends in Ward 3 and ensure prevention programs effectively reach our community.
• Resource Deployment: I am coordinating with District agencies to bring direct behavioral health and trauma support to affected neighbors.
• Legislative Action: I will be exploring targeted legislative and policy options to strengthen domestic violence enforcement and intervention, as well as appropriately resource our public safety agencies.
