STATEMENT ON THE TRAGIC INCIDENT IN THE PALISADES

“The shooting that occurred in the Palisades on Thursday evening during which an individual died by suicide is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the individual who lost his life, as well as the surrounding community traumatized by this incident.

I have been actively engaged on this matter along with my office, working in close communication with impacted neighbors, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, the Office of the Attorney General, and leadership at the Metropolitan Police Department. Neighbors’ concerns about unauthorized occupancy and safety at the property where the death occurred are serious, and the community deserves immediate attention to this matter. I have been continuously working throughout the weekend to listen to neighbors, confirm details surrounding this incident, and evaluate potential actions to address this issue to avoid anything like this from happening again.

The safety and peace of mind of Ward 3 residents is a top priority. My office will continue working to ensure our neighborhoods are safe and supported.
