Cleveland Park Library Temporary Closure for Repairs

The Cleveland Park Library will be closed from Monday Aug. 25 – Saturday, Sept. 6 (estimated date) for air conditioner repairs. For your convenience, holds will be transferred to the neighboring Mt. Pleasant Library located at 3160 16th St NW. They should be available for pick-up starting Tuesday, Aug. 26. If you would like to change your hold pick-up location, you can do so in “My Account.” Hold pick-up dates have been extended to Sunday, Aug. 31. If you have questions about your hold please contact the Mt. Pleasant Library at 202-671-3121. The Cleveland Park book drop will be locked during the closure. You can return items to any DC Public Library location. You can receive updates about the operating status of the library by visiting their website. Thank you for your patience as they diligently work on repairs. We look forward to seeing you at the Cleveland Park Library very soon.

DC Is Setting the Standard for Sustainability

Earth Day was on Tuesday, and the District is proud to be a national and a global leader on the environment. The District has cut citywide emissions by more than 35 percent since 2006 thanks to efforts such as the greening of the electric grid, decreased energy use intensity in commercial buildings, and improvements in vehicle fuel economy and standards. The District holds itself to high standards, as DC government is 100 percent powered by renewable energy. Below are just some of the other ways DC is leading the way. The LEED Certification program is run by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which is a non-profit organization formed to assess the sustainability of buildings and other structures. In 2024 alone, major projects that achieved LEED Certification included the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Raymond Elementary School, and MLK Gateway II. MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 4, 2025 Contact: Kevin Caudill - (202) 741-2134; kcaudill@dccouncil.gov Councilmember Frumin Introduces Bill to Rename Connecticut Ave Bridge In Honor of Disability Rights Advocate Judy Heumann Heumann, who passed in 2023, was a resident of the nearby Kennedy-Warren apartments and used the bridge almost daily.  WASHINGTON, DC - DC Councilmember Matthew Frumin (Ward 3) introduced legislation today that would designate the Connecticut Avenue Bridge over the Klingle Valley as the Judith E. Heumann Memorial Bridge. Councilmembers Anita Bonds (At-Large), Robert C. White, Jr. (At-Large), Brianne K. Nadeau (Ward 1), and Charles Allen (Ward 6) co-introduced the resolution. Judy Heumann was a pioneer of the disability rights movement, who passed away on March 4, 2023. A polio survivor from the age of two, Heumann lost the ability to walk and subsequently used a chair for mobility. Roundtable on Collaboration with National Park Service

On December 4, the Subcommittee on Recreation and Community Affairs hosted a public roundtable on opportunities for collaboration with the National Park Service (NPS). Over 90 witnesses submitted testimony for the record, underscoring what an important issue this is for residents.
