The District of Columbia has issued an Extreme Heat Alert effective Wednesday, July 1, through Sunday, July 5, due to anticipated temperatures exceeding 100°F and heat indices above 105°F. The Office of Councilmember Frumin is committed to ensuring all residents have access to cooling resources and shelter during this time. Emergency Assistance & Shelter If you are in need of shelter or transportation to a cooling location, please utilize the following resources: Shelter Hotline: Call 202-399-7093 or 311. This line is available 24/7. Transportation: From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Shelter Hotline can provide on-demand welfare checks and transportation to a safe, air-conditioned cooling location. Availability: There is sufficient capacity in District shelters 24/7. Statement on the Passing of Thursday’s Shooting Victim

I am deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news that the young man who was shot Thursday afternoon in Tenleytown has passed away as a result of his injuries. Any death at the hands of gun violence is a senseless tragedy and even more so when the victim is one so young. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the entire community as we mourn this loss. I visited the scene Thursday and have remained in communication with the MPD Second District Commander. While the investigation is ongoing, we are taking immediate steps to ensure our neighborhoods and our young people are protected. I, along ANC 3E and Tenleytown Main Street, have urged MPD to maintain a heightened and more visible presence in Tenleytown, particularly during the high-traffic hours, and the department is deploying additional resources to the neighborhood. MPD is also working across partner agencies to identify and address any conflicts within the community. Statement on Feb. 11 Shooting in Glover Park

I am heartbroken by yesterday’s devastating shooting in Glover Park, where a woman lost her life and her daughter was injured. Two young sons were also present, and one of the sons was unaccounted for before being safely located later. The father, who was the suspect, also apparently took his own life. I have been in contact with the Metropolitan Police Department and appreciate their swift and coordinated response, including their work with Prince George’s County law enforcement to safely locate the missing child. The suspect is deceased, and MPD has confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community. I am grateful that the boys are safe with relatives, and I am hopeful for the continued recovery of the injured daughter. This tragedy is especially heartbreaking because these children have now lost their parents. My heart is with them, their loved ones, and all those impacted by this profound loss. Statement on Shooting at 5100 Block of Sherrier Place NW

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. today, there was an officer-involved shooting in the 5100 block of Sherrier Place NW. One individual, a civilian who was the subject in this incident, is deceased. At this time, details remain limited, and the investigation is ongoing. I have been in direct contact with Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) leadership regarding this incident and will continue to stay closely engaged as more information becomes available.   MPD reports that officers were responding to a call regarding a domestic incident. At the scene, a subject was wielding two knives and behaving erratically. According to MPD, the officers attempted multiple de-escalation strategies, including using a taser. Officer commands to drop the knives were ignored, and the officers discharged their weapons after the subject charged at the officers with the knives.    Any loss of life is a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the family and loved ones close to this incident.
