Resources for Older Residents

According to Office of Planning’s demographic data, more than one in every five Ward 3 residents is over 65 years of age. That equates to more than 16,000 people, making Ward 3 home to the largest population of seniors of any ward in the District of Columbia. Since 2023, the DC Council has annually declared May “Old People Are Cool Month” in DC. Councilmember Frumin was proud to introduce the Ceremonial Resolution again in 2025  to recognize the Old People Are Cool project’s important work to confront ageism and support intergenerational collaboration. Organizations in our community have made Ward 3 a great place to age-in-place, and Councilmember Frumin is grateful for their work empowering older adults and connecting them to critical supportive resources. In recognition of Old People Are Cool Month, this resource is intended to provide residents of Ward 3 with information about existing senior services and neighborhood organizations working directly with older adults, including aging and caregiving resources, as well as programming and activities. Statement on the Mayor’s Announcement of Full Funding for Early Learning Programs in FY26 Budget

Today, Mayor Bowser announced full Fiscal Year 26 funding for the Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Program (PKEEP), the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund (Pay Equity Fund), and the DC Child Care Subsidy Program. I applaud the mayor and her team for their efforts to secure funding for these important programs that directly benefit working families and educators in Ward 3 and across the District. I know firsthand with my own family how critical they are for DC to continue to grow, thrive, and be a welcoming place to raise children. Significant credit for this announcement is owed to all those who advocated to protect funding for PKEEP, the Pay Equity Fund, and the Child Care Subsidy, including many Ward 3 parents, school staff, and Advisory Neighborhood Commissions. I heard from numerous constituents about how cuts to these programs would be devasting, and I advocated on their behalf to the mayor to maintain funding in the upcoming budget. Join Team Frumin at Workday in the Ward on March 27 in Spring Valley

Our next Workday in the Ward will be in Spring Valley on Thursday, March 27, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Compass Coffee, 4850 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016. Come meet with Councilmember Frumin from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, or with staff and representatives from District government agencies throughout the day.
